چکیده

In a graph, a matching cut is an edge cut that is a matching. Matching Cut is the problem of deciding whether or not a given graph has a matching cut, which is known to be NP-complete even when restricted to bipartite graphs. It has been proved that Matching Cut is polynomially solvable for graphs of diameter two. In this paper, we show that, for any fixed integer d ≥ 4, Matching Cut is NP-complete in the class of graphs of diameter d. This almost resolves an open problem posed by Borowiecki and Jesse-Józefczyk in [Matching cutsets in graphs of diameter 2, Theoretical Computer Science 407 (2008) 574–582]. We then show that, for any fixed integer d ≥ 5, Matching Cut is NP-complete even when restricted to the class of bipartite graphs of diameter d. Complementing the hardness results, we show that Matching Cut is in polynomial-time solvable in the class of bipartite graphs of diameter at most three, and point out a new and simple polynomial-time algorithm solving Matching Cut in graphs of diameter 2. 1998 ACM Subject Classification F.2.2 [Analysis of Algorithms and Problem Complexity] Nonnumerical Algorithms and Problems, G.2.2 [Discrete Mathematics] Graph Theory

On the computational complexity of finding a minimal basis for the guess and determine attack

Guess-and-determine attack is one of the general attacks on stream ciphers. It is a common cryptanalysis tool for evaluating security of stream ciphers. The effectiveness of this attack is based on the number of unknown bits which will be guessed by the attacker to break the cryptosystem. In this work, we present a relation between the minimum numbers of the guessed bits and uniquely restricted...

On the variable sum exdeg index and cut edges of graphs

The variable sum exdeg index of a graph G is defined as $SEI_a(G)=sum_{uin V(G)}d_G(u)a^{d_G(u)}$, where $aneq 1$ is a positive real number,  du(u) is the degree of a vertex u ∈ V (G). In this paper, we characterize the graphs with the extremum variable sum exdeg index among all the graphs having a fixed number of vertices and cut edges, for every a>1.

Matching Integral Graphs of Small Order

In this paper, we study matching integral graphs of small order. A graph is called matching integral if the zeros of its matching polynomial are all integers. Matching integral graphs were first studied by Akbari, Khalashi, etc. They characterized all traceable graphs which are matching integral. They studied matching integral regular graphs. Furthermore, it has been shown that there is no matc...

On the saturation number of graphs

Let $G=(V,E)$ be a simple connected graph. A matching $M$ in a graph $G$ is a collection of edges of $G$ such that no two edges from $M$ share a vertex. A matching $M$ is maximal if it cannot be extended to a larger matching in $G$. The cardinality of any smallest maximal matching in $G$ is the saturation number of $G$ and is denoted by $s(G)$. In this paper we study the saturation numbe...
